Miniquad

Last years of intense RC-shopping has made some great results to my inventory.
I found four 5g 2000 kv outrunners with 6A esc’s and a kkboard from my crashed tricopter. I’d always loved the idea to fly indoors in my own house and therefore I decided to make myself a miniquad. This is just a first version to see how it works. There are a lot of things that can be improved and I need to reduce its flying weight.

The goal was to make a cheap platform that I could build with parts that I found at home. That’s probably the reason why it ended up a bit heavy.
I used 10×10 mm pinewood booms and 4 mm balsa on top. I’ve come up with a couple of new ideas that hopefully will reduce the weight to aproximate 100 g.

In the middle of april I was asked to participate in an interview with a swedish newspaper called ”Ny Teknik”. It’s published once a week and is printed in 150 000 copies all around Sweden.
Two weeks later I brought two FPV friends to a model airfield to take the journalists for a FPV-ride.
Everything went great  and the article was published yesterday. Even though a large part of the article was written without our knowledge (they compared FPV with military drones) I still hope that it’ll result in an FPV-boom in Sweden and better knowledge about the hobby! :-)

As a bonus the article was also published on another newspapers’ website (www.dn.se). DN.se has 200 000 unique visitors each day!

The result!

Pretty huge article :-)

There are a lot of FPV/RC-channels on both youtube and vimeo and a huge number of webpages about the hobby. Some of them are better than others and I would really like to mention one of my favorite ones. Therefore I would like to introduce Lucas from BusyBee productions. I’ll let him explain who he is before we take a look of what he has made.

My name is Lucas Weakley, I live in the United States in the state of Florida. Ever since I was little I have been fascinated with building things. As I grew up I built things like air cannons and electronic firework detonators. About 2 years ago I discovered the world of radio control and have been hooked ever since. Now I have 6 planes and 2 helicopters. A little time after I started flying I learned about FPV and now it seems like all the money I get goes strait into my FPV addiction. I make a weekly show on YouTube and have a blog www.lucasweakley.com where I showcase all my videos and occasionally show how I build my gear in in-depth instructional posts. I love what I do and hope I can make a job of it in the future.

I think all his shows are very educative and entertaining to watch. Make sure to follow his YouTube channel and subscribe.

Thanks Lucas for all your work you put into this hobby. I’m really looking forward to see some new videos with you!
